Pambula beach in Southern New South Wales is far from an enticing tropical getaway, however it’s become a valuable teacher.
We managed to get away for 2 weeks last month. Rather than the traveling type of holiday, we ‘plonked’ in the one spot just a stones throw from the beach.
One of the most important things I’ve learned from photography teachers and mentors is slow down, sit, and wait. In fact I’ve been learning this approach is necessary for all of life, work and spiritual direction. The good thing about living near this beach for weeks, is constant proximity. As I slowed down and observed the light, the mood, the weather, the sun and the moon over an extended period of time, I began to start to ‘see’ past the ordinary little beach that presents itself at first glance.
As I’m taking baby steps into understanding how Indigenous Australians connect with the land, this time of slowing down and seeing has popped the lid on an extremely helpful worldview.

Peter, some of these images are utterly lovely.
Important word about learning from our indigenous brothers and sisters too… we all have much to learn, wherever we are on the globe.
Hi peter
Do you sell copies as I have been staying at Pambula every summer for 20 years and would love to enlarge a couple of your shots for my wall at home
Many thanks Steve
