Cloudscapes

I’ve always had a fascination with clouds. Seems a bit funny getting excited photographing the sky, we see it everyday yet often don’t take the time to sit and watch. A friend of mine saw me jostling for a peek out the window on a recent domestic flight, and mentioned that there’s a ‘cloud appreciation society‘ for people like myself. Whilst the website is a little clunky, there’s some truly remarkable images if you take a few minutes to dig around.

These shots were taken during the fast West-East sunset, somewhere over the Indian Ocean off the west cost of Australia. In an hour or so we’d gone from daylight to black. I did feel like a bit of a stalker hanging around the tail of the plane with a clunking 200mm lens, but it was one of the best sunsets I’ve seen – and also made the 14hrs in the air a bit more exciting.
